CHIRP BATTLE AND HUM
LORDING
YARD BOSS
These tiny birds are fiercely protective of their nectar. Every season, one lays claim to lord over of its nectar nation and aggressively chases any other hummingbird away.
This perch is a particular favorite location with excellent nectar views and is the site of the longest lording session ever recorded where it once lorded for 24 minutes undisturbed.
SEEKING
CURIOUS BIRDS
These birds appear to be very curious about their surroundings. The more they visit, the more comfortable they become in exploring their surroundings, including perching on just about anything or even feeding from your finger.
CHASING
BIRD BATTLES
Despite an abundance of nectar, the yard boss typically has no tolerance for other hummingbirds. Any hummingbird that enters its territory gets chased away immediately. Often, you hear their buzzing wings and ferociously timid chirps before actually seeing them attack each other. These battles reach their peak in July.
