Project Description

True Bugs

Many of the species of true bugs share a sucking mouth part.

The Sycamore Assassin Bug (shown above) uses its multi-segmented beak to stab and inject poison its prey. The poisonous saliva breaks down its prey’s tissue into a liquid meal that the assassin bug can suck up through its tube. Insect smoothie.

The aphids are the biggest pest in the container gardens and can often be found sucking the sap out of the petunias. Petunias seem to be the most popular target of pests ranging from aphids, mites, grasshoppers, caterpillars and leafhoppers.
