Project Description

Butterflies and Moths

Butterflies taste with their feet.

I sometimes find the monarch butterflies resting on the arborvitae while basking in the sun when not collecting pollen.

The cattail caterpillar moth (last photo below), is showing signs of being parasitized. This occurs when a wasp injects its eggs into a living caterpillar. The wasp larvae will feed on the caterpillar’s fluids and devour their host from the inside, eventually eating their way out of the caterpillar to spin their own cocoons and transform into adults.
