PATIO LIFE

IF YOU PLANT IT – THEY WILL COME

“Patio Life” began with a simple question, “Why is the wasp eating the wood chair?” The answer led me to come face-to-face with a plethora of fascinating arthropods inhabiting the world in our own back yard, reminding us, you do not have to travel far to find interesting neighbors.

If you plant it — they will come.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

REVIEWING THE EXHIBIT

Patio Life and its characters have been described in the Boston Globe, Metro West Daily News, Hopkinton Crier, Arlington Advocate, Winchester Star and NH Magazine. In addition, you can read about it on Wicked Local here and here!

In addition, Patio Life was featured on the television program “Optics: Featured Artists of the Griffin Museum” and can be seen here.

For visitors of any age, Collins has created striking images of the creatures that have lived on Earth millions of years before us and reveal the marvelous ingenuity of a natural world we too often overlook. The critters displayed are marvels of anatomical efficiency, with the brilliant coloration of an Impressionist landscape.

Everyone agrees da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” Gilbert Stuart’s “George Washington” and Grant Wood’s farm couple in “American Gothic” are works of art. But they don’t live in your yard.

If you want to see neighbors who are masterpieces of natural beauty, visit Jamie Collins’ Patio Life.

“Jamie’s work knocks me out,” says HCA director Kris Waldman. “He brings us face to face with the mystery and beauty of the world right under our feet. I think our audience, from artists to parents to kids, will feel the same way.”

Your work is incredible!! My children and I are blown away with the chance to see these critters up close and in so much vibrant detail! We are bug hunters and bug lovers! Thank you for this beautiful display!
