RECORD SETTING YEAR!

2023 proved to be a record setting year for sightings (3,261), flowers visited (6,129), adult males seen (387) and for the longest season on record (Oct. 14) despite the vast amount of rain!

For the first time in this patio’s history, the ruby-throated hummingbirds stayed well into October, with the last sighting occurring on October 14.

Another exciting trend was the amount of adult males seen. This year 387 adult males were seen which is more than the combined total of the three previous seasons (197). It has been studied and observed that these birds may return to the same area where they were born. Perhaps it’s possible these juveniles born here return the following year? Speaking of returning, the migration is only two months away.
