What Flowers Do Hummingbirds Like?
Two plants that have had the most success in the yard at attracting hummingbirds are two species of Salvia (from Proven Winners):
- Rockin Blue Suede Shoes Salvia (shown above)
- Black and Blue Salvia
Two noticeable differences between the two varieties of salvia are the color of the flower and the amount of blooms.
Blue Suede Shoes Salvia | Black and Blue Salvia |

Light blue flowers | Deep vibrant blue flowers |
More flowers | Less flowers |
Both species are annuals that are grown in containers and are excellent at attracting a variety of pollinators, including honey bees.
The hummingbirds visit the salvia more frequently than the liquid feeders and far more frequently than the Fuscia and Lantana.
Patio Life is exhibiting at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth, NH. The exhibit features over 20 large format reproductions of insects, a 6 foot wide map of where the insects were photographed and the book, Patio Life.
