A cattail caterpillar (moth) showing signs of being parasitized.

This occurs when a wasp injects its eggs into a living caterpillar. The wasp larvae will feed on the caterpillar’s fluids and devour their host from the inside, eventually eating their way out of the caterpillar to spin their own cocoons and transform into adults.
